Posters
Nostalgia
This project was completed right at the beginning of quarantine, and my goal was to create posters that will leave the viewer rethinking their time being stuck at home. One thing that kept me sane during those times was finding old interests and hobbies I had when I was younger. I want to share with people that you can make the best out of the situation with what's around you at the moment.
Destroy the Icon
An iconic pop culture figure was selected to manipulate the imagery enough so that the icon was not so easily recognizable. The icon I selected was Marylin Monroe. Thinking along the lines of the intense control behind Hollywood actresses, almost to the point of controlling someone as a puppet. The person is no longer a human but a doll. The arm is a consistent motif in my poster iterations because it symbolizes the power of Hollywood, there is an an invisible hand at play.
Typographic Systems
Posters were designed in response to a chosen article. Several variations were produced for a couple of weeks following a specific format, such as grid bilateral, random, and transitional. Exploring different structures allowed for more experimental play. Collaborative critique and refinement were a big influence that led to the design of the final poster.
Random Generator
I created a spreadsheet of words randomly chosen by a random word generator. A random number generator was then used to pick specific words from the spreadsheet. Then a free image resource was used to search for the randomly generated words. The first 6 images were compiled into a collage on photoshop. Layering and different effects were applied until I was content with the composition.
